Full (Substantive) Edit

This is a full professional edit that addresses content, development, and grammar of the manuscript.  In the end, you will get a polished manuscript ready for self-publishing or submission to agents or publishers.
You will get 2 full rounds, top to tail. You also get the opportunity to review the first two chapters of edits. If you feel the work is unsatisfactory and do not wish to continue, the contract is void, and you’ve only paid for the work completed.

All editing is done in Microsoft Word with Track Changes.

  • Clear character GMCs (Goals, Motivation, Conflict)
  • Point-of-view: POV shifts, filtering, deeper POV
  • Character development: rounding out flat characters
  • Voice: consistent style, word choice
  • Inconsistencies and repetition
  • Story structure: plot and conflict development
  • Spelling, grammar, punctuation

New rates coming in 2021.

Initial payment at contract signing: word count of first two chapters.
Once approved, and before editing continues, the remaining word count for one-half of the manuscript.
Payment of remaining half before delivery of final file.

*** As clean as it will be, I still recommend a proofreader if you are going to self-publish. There are a lot of words in a story! I’d be happy to advise you on some experienced copy editors/proofreaders in the industry.***

Developmental Edit

This is for the development of your storyline without the grammatical feedback. This concentrates on the below. You will get one round with intensive feedback.

  • Clear character GMCs (Goals, Motivation, Conflict)
  • Point-of-view: POV shifts, filtering, deeper POV
  • Character development: rounding out flat characters
  • Voice: consistent style
  • Story structure: plot and conflict development

Initial payment at contract signing: half word count
Payment of remaining half before delivery of final file.

Line Edit

  • This is a grammatical approach to your manuscript.
  • Flow of text
  • Repetition (echoes)
  • Verb tenses
  • Active/passive voice
  • Phrasing
